Stay OptionsA Story Worth Telling
Originally established in 1955 under the name of Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary, it was made internationally famous as part of Project Tiger, India’s tiger conservation efforts to save the endangered Bengal tiger in 1974, and in 1980, it was declared a national park. This national park stands out for its unique and intriguing combination of wildlife and ancient history, where crocodiles lounge near ancient stone steps and leopards roam around temples that date back thousands of years.
The area of Ranthambore National Park is over 1,334 square kilometers. This national park is situated in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district. One of Northern India’s largest national parks, it was the royal hunting ground of Jaipur’s Maharajas. The north side of the town is bordered by the Banas River, while the Chambal River borders the South. The national park derives its name from an old fort present in the park.
