The Story

A Story Worth Telling

Nainital has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. According to Hindu mythology, the town gets its name from the Naini Lake, which is said to be one of the 64 Shakti Peeths, or holy sites of the goddess Sati. The goddess’ eyes are said to have fallen at this site, giving the lake its name of “Naini” (eye) “Tal” (lake). The lake is also considered sacred by the local people and is an important Nainital tourist places. It is an Ideal Hill Station.

In the 19th century, the British discovered Nainital as a potential hill station during their rule in India. They established it as a popular summer retreat for British officials and their families. The town’s development as a hill station saw the construction of many British-style houses, churches, and other public buildings, which can still be seen today.
